Silvia has been the Subject Leader for Languages at Ercall Wood Academy since 2011. She has also worked as a consultant of secondary and primary German language teaching and learning courses/workshops in Germany funded through Comenius and Erasmus+ programmes delivered by LEAP; as well as translator and interpreter (German/Slovak) prior to her teaching career. Silvia is a Research Lead with specific focus on Retrieval Practice, an Edexcel GCSE German examiner, a Fellow of Chartered College of Teaching (FCCT) and teaching and learning mentor in ITT.
MFL GCSE results at The Ercall Wood Academy have been consistently well above the national average, improving every year and the GCSE uptake is also rising up. She currently teaches German to GCSE level and has experience of teaching German to A level and Spanish KS3.
Silvia has experience of leading a diverse and vibrant team, she enjoys coaching and supporting staff to enable them to achieve their full potential with emphasis on team work and applying staff’s best attributes and skills to achieve the best results for the students and the school.
Silvia has lots of experience in collaborative work and sharing good practice and supporting fellow Subject Leaders through regular networking meetings within the learning community trust as well as working with colleagues from other secondary schools across the country via regular WeAreInBeta Subject Leaders Meet-Ups focussing on the MFL Curriculum design. She has been presenting at various webinars for Seneca, ALL and was on a panel of the roundtable at Languages Future Conference (The role of the language teacher in the society) led by Kings College in London. She has a real passion for languages, research, evidence-based and evidence-informed practice and exploring different cultures.
